10 Ways to get the Most out of a Conference

Josh and Tony talk about their experiences in going to ministry conferences and give the 10 best ways to get the most out of them. This applies if you are going to a Youth Specialties Convention or to Group’s Conference in the spring of 2008.

We also mention how Josh is now famous because he was listed on Tony Morgan’s Top 25 list of Blogs, for shame…

Ok, you guys are gettin me psyched about the SYM Conference in the Natti in February. We are currently raising fundage to go to that, but I am also hoping my intro for the SYM Podcast might win me 2 tickets. I am taking my whole team of 3 people—- me, wife, and younger bro. These are great tips for someone like me who has never been before. Trying to get this added to church budget for next year. We will be there one way or another, so we should do a meetup there for all 4 listeners to the podcast. More on that in February.

We use a Wordpress Plugin called “podpress”. It is fantastic. It manages and submits your podcast feed, and comes with stats package that is the Best ” free” one I have used (it is actually the best of paid or free). And it does comes with the flash player. It is really great if you are running a self hosted Wordpress solution. There are other solid tools to though.

What are you looking into doing?

i have a podcast (its actually a radio show that we also host online) i use mypodcast.com but i was just wondering if your player that is on your site was a third party thing, cause i’d like to put the audio each week right on my personal site http://www.chrisburke.ca because i get more traffic there then i do to the podcast site http://www.edgeradio.info but it sounds like your using something that is built into wordpress

Actually I believe the flash player was adopted from somewhere else. If you search for the podpress plugin and read his story of how he started building it I think he mentions where he got the flash player. It is probably open source as well since the plugin is free.

Hey! I’ve been getting caught up on podcasts - my Ipod broke. How messed up is that? Last time I don’t get the extended warranty … it would cost more to fix it than to buy a newer, much bigger and better one … weird. Anyway, enjoyed this podcast. :) I agree on the comment about asking the pros questions. It always blows my mind when most of the room empties out at the end of a session and only a handful of people stick around to ask a question. Talk about a great opportunity to get some specific advice from a big dog! Worth the wait!

On a snack side note … lol … they are critical, but the ones you guys were listing are all on the bad idea side of the spectrum. (I’m such a nerd) Yes, they taste great … but digest so fast that you get a quick buzz and then you’re tired and hungry again. I’d recommend bringing some high fiber granola bars (think Kashi or Fiber One) ’cause they take longer to digest so you’re not distracted by hunger pains. I also carry around some apples, etc. Although … I have to say, Josh Griffin & Doug Fields totally ripped into me last year at NYWC when I started snacking during their FIVE HOUR LONG SESSION. lol. Big hypocrit! Telling everyone to bring snacks on his podcast!

I bow to your nutritional knowledge and discipline (and so does my extra 30 pounds…)
